Climate Change in the Classroom: UNESCO Course for Secondary Teachers on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development.

Climate Change in the Classroom uses Flash-based software to support a flipbook format providing an on-screen textbook page-turning experience. The program offers a six-day course in climate change education designed to give teachers the confidence and skills to help students understand the causes, drivers and consequences of climate change. The program takes climate change education beyond the science classroom by also looking at ethical, social, economic, cultural and political dimensions of climate change. The activities are suitable for both pre-service and in-service teacher education.
Authored by David and Fumiyo, the teaching pack includes a Course Framework and Overview, step-by-step programs for each of the six days with all course materials and PowerPoint slides, and activities for use back in the high school classroom linked to the theme of each program day. Additionally, there are attractively-presented bespoke Regional Resource Packs for Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, and Small Island States.
The materials place climate change education within a framework of education for sustainable development and also make strong links with disaster risk reduction education.
Climate Change in the Classroom is the first on-line climate change education training pack for secondary teachers. It is a flagship element within UNESCO’s program on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development and, it is anticipated, will have global reach in influencing climate change education developments.
