Dr. Ben Mallon is a postdoctoral researcher with the Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education (CHRCE) in Dublin City University, Ireland.
His doctoral thesis explored peace-building education programmes across the island of Ireland, with a focus on the perceptions and experiences of young people. Ben’s research interests are centred on the relationship between education and conflict and in particular on how conceptualisations of ‘action’ and ‘responsibility’ shape young peoples’ engagement with citizenship. Ben has eight years’ experience as a post primary teacher and also in the creation of resources to support Development Education in Transition Year. At undergraduate and postgraduate levels, he has lectured in the areas of global citizenship education, climate change education, equality and the sociology of childhood. Ben sits on the editorial board of the journal Policy and Practice: A Development Education Review.
